Gov Paul LePage - Maine Receives Good News

Business Insider magazine declared Maine’s economy as “booming” on Friday following the release of new Federal data. Maine’s economy is doing better than any other state in New England and better than most of the nation measured over the last three months.

Ten days ago newly released unemployment rate figures indicate Maine has its lowest rate of unemployment since 2008. The jobs picture is continuing to improve.

Governor LePage announced Maine employers would see a full $30 million of savings that can be put back into the state’s economy because raising employment was lowing unemployment tax insurance rates to their lowest levels since 2009.

Maine’s economy is improving because of the pro-jobs reforms instituted by Governor LePage.

The first three years of private-sector job growth under Governor LePage were the best three years Maine has had in over a decade.

These achievements are remarkable when you think about the fact that under Governor Baldacci for some time Maine had a higher unemployment rate than the national average.

Now we must deliver this news to the people of Maine.

People complain the only news they get on the Governor is negative.

It has become clear the only way to ensure the people of Maine hear this good news is for the Governor’s campaign to deliver it.

The campaign must deliver this good news, and more of the Governor’s positive accomplishments, directly to the voters.

The campaign faces a major deadline in just a few short days. The end of December is a campaign finance deadline.

To ensure the people of Maine can learn about these positive accomplishments is it critical the Governor’s campaign has the resources necessary to deliver the message.

If you believe cutting red tape is a better way to create jobs rather than regulations which go above and beyond the national average – then the Governor’s campaign needs to hear from you.

If you believe cutting taxes encourages Maine people to spend more to grow the economy and incentivizes job creating businesses to move here and help Maine prosper – the Governor’s campaign needs to hear from you.

If you believe private sector jobs, and small business growth, are more essential to a thriving economy as opposed to just increasing the size of government bureaucracy – the Governor’s campaign needs to hear from you..

International Jobs Come to Maine - Gov. Paul LePage

More jobs are coming to Maine as a result of climate change and the hard work that Gov. Paul LePage has done with an Icelandic shipping company. This is a huge win for the state because of its strategic location and is the only port of call for this international company - Eimskip. So important is the state that back in May the President Olafur Ragnar Grimmson of Iceland made a personal trip to Maine and spoke in South Portland about newly opened shipping lanes and how they would benefit Maine.

Gov, Paul LePage echoed those comments.

While the jobs are welcome to Maine - politics are creeping in to spoil what should be celebrated. Michael Michaud feels it is better to criticize Gov. LePage for a choice of words. Is Michaud really for people or politics? Gov LePage has been working for Maine - what has Michaud done for the state?

Knox County Republicans to meet Feb. 12 2013 at 7 pm

Rockland — The Knox County Republicans announce that Bruce Poliquin will be the evening’s speaker. Newly-elected Chairman Bob Carter will also be presenting exciting new plans for the coming year.

The meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 12, at 7 p.m. A social hour will take place beginning at 6:30 p.m. The meeting will be held at the Trade Winds on the top floor in downtown Rockland.

All Knox County Republicans are welcome and urged to attend.

You disagree with the Budget... What would you do?

The budget touches all of us in the state. Is it fair that we ask those that work hard to pay more for services they may not be able to take advantage of? Is it fair to ask those that truly need help to say that we have to take away from them? In both cases the answer is no and yes at the same time. Maine is at a crossroads where the state cannot afford the entitlements and expenses that were funded in the past. At the same time it is unfair to ask those that are struggling to balance their family budgets for more and dig deeper. What is right? As a tax payer I fully expect to do my share to help make sure the state remains solvent. I am not thrilled with the idea of having even more of my paycheck taken away, but I know for the long term it is the right thing to do. I will sacrifice for the greater good. As I am making changes to my life so that others can be helped – I would also expect that those that are being helped by my labor will also reduce their dependence on the state. The burden should be carried by everyone.

There are many in state government that realize Maine has to do something. Governor LePage has submitted a budget and while it is not perfect he is trying to live within Maine's means. There are some hard choices that had to be made – right or wrong – but at least he is willing to put them out there. His opposition – and they are loud and vocal – have come down hard on LePage for what he is proposing. They are doing so without offering palatable solutions to the budgetary problems we are all facing. They are bringing nothing to the table and as a result they are playing it safe. Unwilling to suggest what will be hard to swallow for them it is easier to let others suggest ideas that will be controversial. Those that are taking the risk of working with the Governor should be commended for doing so. They are looking to the future of Maine and the long term goals we should have. RepubliCAN of Maine challenges those to come up with something – or shut up – because your hot air is doing nothing productive.

Where in the world is Jon Courtney?

We don't know where he is right now but Jon has been jumping around the state these last few days and he was most recently spotted at Pikes Industries in Wells this evening. Jon was attending a fund raiser for Senator Ron Collins and toured the facility with Ron and Rick Goodrich.

Jon also made a stop over at the Nonantum in Kennebunkport. This Grand Hotel located on the Kennebunk River played host to a fund raiser for Deb Plowman this evening.

Earlier in the day Jon was spotted at the Kennebunk location of Courtney Cleaners in Kennebunk and also at the Kennebunk Post Office with Rep. Paul Bennett and his daughter Clarke Canfield.

Yesterday Kevin Raye was endorsed by the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB). The NFIB represents over 3,500 small businesses across Maine. Charlie Summers calls out Cynthia Dill

Today Charlie Summers called on Cynthia Dill (D- Cape Elizabeth) to denounce comments that were made earlier this week by Rep. Paul Gilbert (D- Jay). The comments by Rep. Paul Gilbert were made during a confirmation hearing for the nomination of Christopher Pierce to the Finance  Authority of Maine. Rep. Paul Gilbert repeatedly played down the service that Christopher Pierce gave to this country. Rep. Paul Gilbert feels that Christopher Pierce  and his service with the National Guard “was not considered qualification for veteran's status”. You see Charlie Summers is a veteran of Iraq and Afghanistan and knows what our men and women at arms have to go through both on and off the battle field. The comments made by Rep. Gilbert were not only disrespectful towards those who put their lives on the line for this country. His comments also show the lack of awareness of those who serve our country. Charlie Summers is highlighted in new ads on reform and service

Starting tomorrow September 5 Charlie Summers begins a television campaign which introduces the candidate to Maine voters. As Maine GOP spokesman David Sorensen points out “The Summers campaign is building momentum daily”. See Charlie's video “Meet CharlieSummers.”

The future of Maine's families is for Independence – from Government.

The Republican party is in a race with the other party to change the way we think about assistance for families in need. Jon Courtney pointed out at the Rotary Club in Wells that he and other Republicans worked on tailoring a plan to help people get off of state assistance. Government assistance should be available to help as a safety net. It should not be a way of life.

Government should be there to offer assistance when a family is in need. It should tailor that assistance though so that the person or family has a goal of independence – not dependence on that assistance. We want to present you three scenarios of people or families receiving assistance or who have tried:

• A late 30's woman who has been receiving government assistance for over 15 years now. The dollar value of assistance currently is in excess of $36,000.  She is voting for the current President because she does not want to loose any assistance. This person has no disability but knows the system well enough to live a very comfortable life paid for by those that do work. 
• A late 20's man who is 'disabled' by anxiety and has been 'disabled' for more than 5 years. This gentleman lives his life filled with 'anxiety' that is so disabling that he can not work at any normal job of any kind. He refuses to seek any help that may assist him in overcome this disabling anxiety and help him become a productive member of society. This gentleman currently spends his days drinking vodka and playing video games. This life style is paid for by all of us still working. Is the state really helping this young man? This man by the way is voting for the current President because he does not want to lose his current entitlements. 

The example presented represents what is wrong with the current system. What is supposed to be a safety net has turned into a way of life and one that is quite comfortable. Why would anyone want to give up on a situation where everything is taken care of for you? At some point if enough people opt for a lifestyle where the government takes care of you there won't be enough people to cover the cost. In our final example we see someone who probably should have help of some sort but cannot because she earns too much.

• A young woman who is 18 recently applied for assistance. She is a single Mom with a 15 month old child. She works full time at a fast food restaurant earning $7.50 and hour and working no more than 39 hours.  Her earnings come to $1170 a month which is considered too much to receive much of any kind of assistance other than food stamps (currently $122.00 per month). When this woman went to DHHS for help for child care and rental assistance she was told that she made too much money at $14,000 a year. She was told by DHHS that if she quit her job she would be entitled to more benefits. The benefits would exceed her yearly income and provide her with a home, child care and TANIF. This woman has declined the advice of DHHS and continues working.

Here we are presented again with what is wrong with a system that is supposed to help to offer a safety net to those that are in need. In the examples presented we see a system that is broken. A system that creates and encourages dependence instead of independence. Show your support for the Republican candidate in your district. Success should be how many people are not on public assistance not by how many are on assistance.

What is the Democrat record on Job Creation?

No President can take credit for the actual creation of jobs, they can influence how jobs are created and or if they are created. During the current administration we have seen little or no job creation as compared to the past 11 Presidents. John F Kennedy and George HW Bush come close to the lack of job creation that Obama has had. Both of these Presidents had during their term a job gain of 2.45 million. Gerald Ford was next with 2.9 million. At the top of the heap we find Ronald Regan with 16.9 million, President Bill Clinton was close to this figure. In between we find Richard Nixon, Lyndon Johnson, Jimmy Carter and Harry Truman to name a few. At the bottom of the heap we find Barack Obama with 0.1 million jobs created. This is a sad statistic.

For Obama to have a positive influence on job creation he needs to show 260,000 jobs created between now and December for every month. Can this happen? Anything is possible. In Maine the Republican party has been fighting against the entrenched Democrat party. In the last year thousands of jobs have been created by Republicans and the current administration. Republicans in Maine have been fostering the independence of Maine's families and supporting the idea of living within ones means. In November come out and support those Republican candidates that support that value Maine's families.
